J20 Rendezvous Cleveland :: “To defend ideas not borders”

Other Free

Join us on January 20th for a vegan potluck, film showing, and community gathering where we will be fostering conversions around solidarity and mutual aid in Cleveland.

Two years ago, anarchists took the streets to open Trump’s presidency with a powerful act of defiance, culminating in the riot in DC during the presidential inauguration. January 20, 2017 was supposed to represent the dawn of a new authoritarian nationalism; instead, it marked the beginning of a new era of resistance.

All are invited to join us on January 20th for a vegan potluck, film showing, and community gathering where we will be fostering conversions around solidarity and mutual aid in Cleveland. We will be showing the 37min documentary on the J20 protests “Conspiracy To Riot” about that riotous event and its fallout as well as the solidarity and support that got the charges dropped! Cleveland is sadly lacking when it comes to space for radical discourse. For those who feel the need to break through the torpor of daily life and subvert the corrosive structures of power that dominate both social and political life, the sharing of ideas and passions needs its space. It is our hope we can begin a process of sharing, discussion, and action that can build our power to not only react to our tragic time but get ahead of it. Together let us eat, listen, talk and begin to carve out a space where we can imagine new and liberating ways to act.

This is a call to expand our movement and connect with everyone who is being policed, automated, evicted, and displaced to the margins. The Great Recession never ended; despite “our” rulers trumpeting the success of the economy, most of us are working longer hours for less money, as everything from the gig economy to artificial intelligence renders us obsolete. Police, borders, and prisons kill, divide, and confine as hurricanes and wildfires rage outside our windows. Yet all of these crises offer us the opportunity to connect with others to create a better world.
