Strange Frequencies

Tickets are good for both Saturday & Sunday’s events.

Saturday November 23rd at 8 PM

There will be a conversation between photographer Shannon Taggart and Buckland Museum director Steven Intermill on Raymond Buckland’s history as a Spiritualist as well as his time at Lily Dale, NY.

Lily Dale medium and friend of Raymond Buckland, Lauren Thibodeau, will conduct a clairvoyant message service—a Spiritualist ritual that dates back to the Victorian era. Lauren will give a short introduction to message mediumship, explain and demonstrate both the British and American style of working, and deliver messages from Spirit to members of the audience.

Sunday November 24th at 1 PM

Join us for the Cleveland premiere of SÉANCE, Shannon Taggart’s long-awaited book on the religion of Spiritualism. With SÉANCE—a part documentary, part ghost story, 18-years in the making—Shannon offers a series of haunting images exploring Spiritualist practices in the US, England, and Europe. Supported with commentary on her experiences and a foreword by Dan Aykroyd, creator of Ghostbusters and fourth-generation Spiritualist, SÉANCE explores Spiritualism’s relationship with human celebrity and its connections to art, science, and technology. It concludes with the debate over “ectoplasm”— the elusive substance that is said to be both spiritual and material. In this illustrated presentation, Shannon will share rare historical images and never-before-told stories behind the photographs reproduced in SÉANCE. The presentation will include an image taken of Raymond Buckland during a séance in Lily Dale, and copies of the book will be available for signing.

Author Peter Bebergal will join us for a presentation on his book Strange Frequencies, a journey through the attempts artists, scientists, and tinkerers have made to imagine and communicate with the otherworldly using various technologies, from cameras to radiowaves.

Cleveland musician and maker Sam Harmon will conduct experiments of Electronic Voice Phenomenon.
